I have a lot of old wallets with a lot of manual transfers and/or transfers done with CSV files.
If i just add in the API option now, it will try (BY DEFAULT) try to sync my whole wallet. This will create 1000-3000 duplicate transfers which i have to manually go through.
Right now, the API setup flow is:
Add wallet/or sync and old wallet → enter API key → Secure Import → Autom. sync
Then open the wallet → API settings → set Start import from date
If you think the workflow should allow choosing that date before the first sync, that would a a very valid way of how syncing would work.
Now you have to be really fast or prepared to manually delete transactions.
Problems with for example Coinbase and Nexo.

It's not possible to set the start date for SSO (like Nexo, where connection is done using "Continue to Nexo")
For wallets with API keys (or public addresses, for blockchains) you can set the start date under "Advanced" (see screenshot)
In understand that this limitation might be inconvenient, but it affects only some particular wallets (SSO). For those wallets, it's true that the first sync may bring duplicates - remember that you can go to "Import history" and view only transactions imported in the last sync, so it should be quite easy to delete all transactions from before a certain date
